The "Erz der Alpen" UNESCO Global Geopark covers an area of 211 km² across the municipalities of Bischofshofen, St. Veit im Pongau, Mühlbach am Hochkönig and Hüttau.
The Geopark Visitor Centre at the ski jump site in Bischofshofen is the central hub of the Geopark. One of the highlights on display is the Nebra Sky Disc, made from copper, tin and bronze. Research has shown that its copper originated in the Erz der Alpen UNESCO Global Geopark.
Although mining has long ceased, its legacy remains visible throughout the Geopark. A show mine and exhibitions at the visitor centre trace the region's geological and climatic history. The visitor centre also hosts a new special exhibition each year.
